Uzbek government decided to keep Karakalpakstan autonomy today. This U-turn obviously didn't help.

Indigenous activists from Russia, representing six national movements, have announced the creation of the League of Free Nations — a political platform for the decolonization of indigenous peoples in the Russian Federation and the acquisition of each nation’s sovereignty.

All regions, by definition, can achieve and declare full sovereignty and full independence from Moscow. Then, acting as free territories, they can decide their own future: whether they want to remain independent, unite with other regions/republics, or create a confederation of states.

This week, three activists from the Middle Volga announced the formation of the Free Idel-Ural Movement to achieve real sovereignty for Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Chuvashia, Udmurtia, Mari El and Mordvinia by encouraging cooperative actions among the peoples of these republics and drawing on support from Ukraine.

Remember, Ukraine emerged from what may be the first phase of dissolution, when it became independent of Russia in 1991, along with the Baltic countries. In my view a consequence of this war with being the continuation of the process.

We know that there is a likely movement for independence in Siberia. We are used to thinking of Russia as a state, covering eleven time zones that are pretty much monolithic. It’s not. Russia is a collection of people where White Russians run the roost.

Minorities are under constant attack and do not have the same opportunities as their White Russian counterparts. Nor are they allowed to have modern infrastructure, such as indoor plumbing.

Here is an ethnic map of modern-day Russia. This is not the monolithic nation most outsiders believe Russia is. I am also attaching a map of where most of the troops are coming from.

It’s not a coincidence. When you see the tension rising, it will be easy to predict. Notice, that neither Moscow nor St Petersburg, figure highly in the sacrifice of blood and treasure. 1991 was a surprise. It should not have been. This time around it should not shock us either.
